We got in line to check in and noticed a woman with a Detroit Tigers bag...Michelle asked if she was from Detroit and she was with a group of 11 from the Detroit area on our same trip! Small world!
We got all checked in and headed outside to our ship. We had to walk around the building and seeing the ship for the 1st time up close was quite impressive and exciting!
We boarded and were greeted with a cool towel a champagne cocktail and some music. We headed to our cabin to drop off our stuff and explore the ship. Our cabins are 2 levels down and our porthole window is just above sea level..
We walked around and explored the ship finding our way around ...time to shower and get ready for dinner before the sail away at 945.
We headed to dinner about 830 and the dining room was packed. We were seated at opposite ends of an 8 person table with 4 other people between us . They were from Zurich ..one couple this was their 14th trip and 20 the week overall on the star clipper ...they now usually do 2 weeks at a time. This is was the first of a 2 week trip for them and the first time they had brought friends along. The woman next to me had lived in Ardmore just outside of Philadelphia many years ago...another small world happening! Dinner was very good ...fish for me and Wayne and lamb for Michelle and Peter.
Now for the highlight of the day...we headed to the deck for departure ...the masts were lit up and we started to move out of the harbor guided by tug boats..once we were out of the harbor the star clipper very dramatic sailing theme music started to play and all the sails were all raised..it was very cool! We hung out on deck for a while while we sailed into the night. As we got further from the lights of the cities more and more starts came into view...Great end to an awesome day!
We do cool stuff!
Sorry for the lack of pictures...the connection at our little beach stop is a little slow...hopefully tomorrow stop will be better..
